New Stitch #1
The Shell Stitch!
Do you guys remember me talking about wanting to learn new stitches this year? I think it was about a month ago. I know, I am such a procrastinator. I finally got some free time to try my first stitch, the shell stitch. I was even able to find a pattern for a hat to make using the stitch so that was an added bonus. You can find that pattern over on Hooked on Homemade Happiness. Breann did a fabulous job explaining how to make the shell stitch.
Now, this hat is different. It’s made from the bottom up. I don’t usually care for hats made like that but this hat isn’t so bad. In fact, I really like this hat and will definitely be making more. My most favorite part about the hat is the brim. I love stitching in the back look to make the ripple/ribbed effect.
My least favorite part about hats being worked from the bottom up is how you have to close the top of the hat. I have such a hard time with it that I just try to stay away from it all together. I can’t ever get my hats to look right. And if you aren’t putting a pom pom on top then it’s there for everyone to see. BUT, Breann even shows you how to close up the hole in her tutorial. How amazing is that? Kudos to you, girl!!
I just have to say that this stitch is so beautiful. Who would have thought a series of double crochet and one single crochet stitch would make something so pretty. Once you get the hang of making your rounds, time goes by pretty quickly. I was able to get it done in one afternoon and that was with everything I had going on. It’s super easy to make and highly recommend you trying this pattern.
My only problem now is to decide if I want to add a grey or black pom pom to this hat.
