New Stitch #2
The Loop Stitch!
I’m sitting here at the mall food court waiting for my daughter to get done with her friends at the movies and I’ve realized two things. One, this mall is extremely full of teeny boppers just walking aimlessly around with their heads down playing on their phones. Two, I have not done my second new stitch post this month (Gasp!!). So, I’m going to continue sitting in this insanely uncomfortable seat and talk to you guys.
The loop stitch was absolutely amazing. I have to say that it’s my all time favorite stitch. It’s so beautiful and has so much texture. My best friend, Beka, shared a post of the Alpaca My Llama blanket over on MJs Off the Hook Designs to my Facebook wall a few weeks ago and all the girls gushed over it and then I got an order for one. I’m not gonna lie, I HATE making blankets but this one seemed different. It’s not a normal blanket size but more like an afghan. It was definitely different and was an exception. Using a large (16mm) hook with two strands of yarn may have had something to do with it, I don’t know. I do know that it worked up so quickly that I had it done in five days working on it off and on.
My favorite part of the blanket is the loop stitching. It starts off like a single crochet stitch but ends up like a double crochet stitch. And then you’re left with this little loop hanging down from the stitch. It’s so soft and fuzzy (can I use that word to describe it? I’m not sure) that it makes it the best feeling ever.
The blanket comes down just past my knees and wraps all the way around me. It has hooves attached to it so you can keep your hands warm.
You don’t have to worry about draping it over your couch or throwing it in a corner when your done because it fold up into a pillow. Yes, it really does.
As I was making it, I was posting photos progress of it on my FB. This photo caught everyone’s attention and they loved it. Isn’t it so adorable? The ears are the best part.
At the same time I was making this blanket I was also making the same friend a llama hat with longer hair for her daughter. I wasn’t happy with it for a few reasons but mailedj it to her anyway (it was not a paid project, just something I like doing for her). I told her I wasn’t happy about it and that’s when she got the crazy idea to make the hat like the hood from this blanket. Then it hit me! I will be making my friend a llama hat with loop stitches. It’s going to be so much better than the long yarn used as hair like the last one. I can’t wait to show you guys.
In the meantime, if you’d like to purchase one of these blankets please contact me. I can make a child or adult size.
