XOXO CUP COZY AND MUG RUG… a free crochet pattern.
It’s no secret that Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. So much so that it’s also my anniversary. I love all the red and pink hearts, flowers, chocolate, etc… I just love it.
In honor of my anniversary and Valentine’s Day, I am releasing a new cup cozy and mug rug pattern.
HUGS & KISSES (XOXO) CUP COZY AND MUG RUG

This pattern is very simple. It’s made to fit over the taller white mugs from the Dollar Tree. You can add or decrease stitches to make it the length you need as long as it’s in multiples of two.
It’s a very simple pattern. One row is made of the cross stitches, which are the X’s. The next row is the puff stitches, which are the 0’s.
You will need:
• H hook ( 5 mm)
• 4 weight cotton yarn ( I prefer I Love This Cotton)
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Two buttons ( mine is .75 inches)
Abbreviations:
FSC: foundation single crochet
CH: chain
XS: cross stitch
PS: puff stitch
DC: double crochet
SC: single crochet
YO: yarn over
NOTES:
- CH 2 counts as a stitch
- CH 1 does NOT count as a stitch
- Puff stitches are made on the wrong side of your work.
SPECIALTY STITCHES
PUFF STITCH: Yarn over and insert BETWEEN the cross stitches. YO and pull through 4 times. You’ll have nine loops on your hook. YO and pull through all nine loops. SC into the next stitch ( the first dc in your XS).

CROSS STITCH: Skip the next stitch and DC into the next stitch. Then make a DC into the skipped stitch. That gives you the X look.

Fringe: Cut 32 pieces of yarn 5.5 inches long. Fold two in half at a time and connect them to the sides. You’ll have eight sections on each side.

Please remember that different brand yarn creates a different looking product. I tried this same pattern in Peaches & Creme and this is what it looks like. It looks a bit rougher but it is still pretty.

Please let me know what you think. You can leave a comment below or find me on FB. This pattern has been tested but mistakes due occur. Please let me know if you find any.
Disclaimer: I want people to know that the use of the puff stitch and cross stitch in this pattern was inspired by a hat (Valentina Beanie) I tested a few years ago. I loved the stitches so much that I’ve made no less that eight of the hats and I made my own pattern using the same stitches. Here’s to a HUGE shout out to DeniMade and her Beanie.
