Christmas in July… Week 3
Miss Priss Plant Hanger

You’re going to think this post has nothing to do with Christmas but I promise it does. This week’s project is for the plant lovers. The Miss Priss Plant Hanger is designed and named in honor of my niece, Priscilla. She’s a huge plant geek just like I am. This hanger is made to fit the 4 inch terra cotta pots. Those pots are absolutely perfect for putting a baby succulent or plant in. Or even better for you to take a cutting from your favorite plant to share with a loved one.
All you need to do is buy a terra cotta pot, work up the Miss Priss Plant Hanger real quick and you can have a gift ready within a few hours. And it’s going to be the most heart felt give someone can get.
Here’s what you need:
- Cotton yarn (less than half of the larger skeins)
- H hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Abbreviations:
- CH = Chain
- SC = Single Crochet
- HDC = Half Double Crochet
- SK = Skip
- ST(s) = Stitch(es)
- SL ST = Slip Stitch
- FSC = Foundation Single Crochet
Special Stitches:
- 3rd loop only = Check out oombawkadesigns.com for this stitch. She’s got some great photos to go with her tutorials.
- Foundation Single Crochet = This is the website I learned from on how to do this stitch so I’m going to send you guys over there to learn also. 1dogwoof.com
Now you are ready to begin the pattern!
Round 1: Make a magic ring, CH 2 (does NOT count as a stitch), 8 HDC in the magic ring. SL ST into the first HDC. (8 HDC)
Round 2: CH 2, 2 HDC in the same stitch, 2 HDC in each HDC across. SL ST into the first HDC. (16 HDC)
Round 3: CH 2, HDC in the same stitch, 2 HDC in the next stitch. *HDC in the next stitch, 2 HDC in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. SL ST into the first HDC. (24 HDC)
Round 4: CH 2, HDC in the same stitch, 2 HDC in the next stitch. *HDC in the next stitch, 2 HDC in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. SL ST into the first HDC. (32 HDC)
AT THIS POINT, YOUR CIRCLE SHOULD MEASURE 2.75” WIDE. IF IT DOES NOT, ADJUST YOUR HOOK ACCORDINGLY AND TRY AGAIN. YOU WANT THE POT TO FIT SNUG INSIDE SO IT DOESN’T WIGGLE AROUND.
Round 5: CH 1, WORKING IN THE 3RD LOOP ONLY, SC in the same stitch and in each stitch across. SL ST into the first SC. (32 SC)
Round 6: CH 1, WORKING IN THE 3RD LOOP ONLY, SC in the same stitch and in the next 6 stitches, 2 SC in the next stitch. *SC in the next 7 stitches, 2 SC in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * two times. SL ST to the first SC. (36)
Round 7: CH 1, SC in the same stitch. * CH 2, skip 2 stitches, SC in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * 10 times. CH 2, SC in the first CH space. (12 SC, 24 CHs)
Round 8: *CH 3, SC in the next CH 2 space*, (MAKE SURE YOU ADD A STITCH MARKER INTO THE CH 3 SPACE YOU JUST CREATED). Repeat from * to * 10 times. CH 3, SC in the first CH space. (12 SC, 36 CHs)
Round 9: *CH 4, SC in the next CH 3 space*, (MAKE SURE YOU ADD A STITCH MARKER INTO THE CH 4 SPACE YOU JUST CREATED). Repeat from * to * 10 times. CH 4, SC in the first CH space. (12 SC, 48 CHs)
Round 10: *CH 5, SC in the next CH 4 space*, (MAKE SURE YOU ADD A STITCH MARKER INTO THE CH 5 SPACE YOU JUST CREATED). Repeat from * to * 10 times. CH 5, SC in the first CH space. (12 SC, 60 CHs)??
Round 11: 2 SC in the same space. * 1 SC in the next SC, 5 SC in the next CH space*. Repeat from * to * 10 times. SL ST to the first SC. (69 SC including the SC from Round 10)
Round 12: CH 1, WORKING IN THE 3RD LOOP ONLY, SC in the same stitch and in each stitch across. SL ST into the first SC. (69 SC)
Round 13: CH 1, WORKING IN THE 3RD LOOP ONLY, SC in the same stitch and in each stitch across. SL ST into the first SC. (69 SC)
Round 14: CH 1, SC in the same stitch and in each stitch across. DO NOT TIE OFF. WE WILL BE WORKING ON THE STRAPS.
STRAPS:
You can make your straps as long as you’d like. I will give your instructions on how I did it and then you can adjust as you’d like.
Strap 1: Crochet 100 FSC. I have provided a photo of the spot where you would start your first FSC since I did not do the chain 2 at the beginning. To attach it to your plant hanger, SC into the stitch directly across from your beginning stitch. Tie off and weave in.

Strap 2: Place your yarn directly in between your other strap. Crochet 100 FSC. To attach it to your hanger, SC into the stitch directly across from your beginning stitch. Tie off and weave in.
You can either use a wood ring or a S hook to hang your plant up.

You are now done with your Miss Priss Plant Hanger. Make sure to pin this on Pinterest so you don’t lose them. I would love to see what you do with your plant hanger so please find me on all the social media and tag me in your makes.
