New Stitch #2
The Loop Stitch! I’m sitting here at the mall food court waiting for my daughter to get done with her friends at the movies and I’ve realized two things. One, this mall is extremely full of teeny boppers just walking aimlessly around with their heads down playing on their phones. Two, I have not done my second new stitch post this month (Gasp!!). So, I’m going to continue sitting in this insanely uncomfortable seat and talk to you guys. The loop stitch was absolutely amazing. I have to say that it’s my all time favorite stitch. It’s so beautiful and has so much texture. My best friend, Beka, shared a…

New Stitch #1
The Shell Stitch! Do you guys remember me talking about wanting to learn new stitches this year? I think it was about a month ago. I know, I am such a procrastinator. I finally got some free time to try my first stitch, the shell stitch. I was even able to find a pattern for a hat to make using the stitch so that was an added bonus. You can find that pattern over on Hooked on Homemade Happiness. Breann did a fabulous job explaining how to make the shell stitch. Now, this hat is different. It’s made from the bottom up. I don’t usually care for hats made like…

Crocheting For a Cause
A few days ago, a local non-profit group let us know that they were in a critical situation and posted that a local hospital NICU was in urgent need of 35-40 Valentine themed hats and small blankets. I knew I had to help. Now, if you know me, you know I LOVE Valentine’s Day. I love all the pretty red and pink decorations, the heart candy, truffles, etc. A lot of people don’t like the holiday because it’s just made up by companies to get you to spend money and you shouldn’t need a holiday to get your someone special a card or flowers. I get that and I respect…

A Year In Stitches
I like to think that I’m an advanced crocheter. Wouldn’t you agree? I’ve crocheted cardigans, hats, cowls, amigurumis and so much more. But, I’m starting to realize that I don’t use that many stitches. That might be because I don’t make blankets. Blankets just take too long and I get bored. It took me 2.5 years to make my son’s blanket and it turned into an afghan. He was so happy when I told him it was finished that I was glad I didn’t make it it’s original size. I swore then that I’d never make another blanket. I’ve decided that I’m going to learn some new stitches this year,…

Temperature Blankets
What are they and why you should make one. Crochet temperature blankets seem to be all the rage right now and with good reason. It reflects the temperature you’ve had all year. The blanket is worked up daily/weekly and takes all year to make. The basic idea is to take the high or low temperature of the day (or week; you take the temp of each day, add them up and then divide them by seven) and crochet a row or two of any stitch you’d like. I’ve been thinking and thinking about making one of these blankets off and on now for about a month. I have wanted to…

Winter and Warmth!
The Luna Triangle Cowl Where would I be without this squishy cowl? I can tell you, I would be freezing! I finished this cowl about a month ago and it was just in time for all sorts of crazy weather. The weather guys were all saying that we were supposed to get 2-4″ of snow on the 14th. Snow big deal, right?? (See what I did? Snow instead of no. No? Ok, sorry! Lol.) Well, we ended up with about a foot of snow. School was closed for two days. It was amazing! And I stayed warm! This cowl works up very quickly. It calls for bulky yarn that requires…

A little bit of yarn.. A whole lot of change!!
Phew, has it been crazy around here. We finally got moved and settled down about three weeks ago. I am loving the house we have and I’m beginning to get back into the swing of things. I’ve crocheted a few things here and there but I really want to talk about the Phoebe set. You guys remember the Brooklyn set I made last year, right? I made a personal set of the ear warmer, fingerless gloves and cowl. It is such an amazing set. I still have it and wear it often. This year, my friend worked up a pattern for a new set, The Phoebe! I tested the hat,…

Giveaway Winner Announcement!
Hey, hey!! How’s everyone doing? I hope you guys are staying dry. We are getting drenched over here on the East coast. This is the most rain I’ve seen in a very long time. First of all, I want to thank everyone who entered the Brooklyn Ear Warmer contest. I would not be here where I am without you guys. Thank you for supporting me. I appreciate it so much. For those of you who missed it, you can find the contest here. I’m sorry if you missed it but don’t worry. I will be having a Christmas giveaway soon. I’m sorry I’m a bit late announcing this giveaway but…

A Fall Sale and Giveaway!
It’s almost Fall y’all! September is here and that means we are now in the “ber” months, my favorite time of the year. Fall will officially be here in 20 days. That’s less than 3 weeks! I can now start getting ready to wear my jackets and all of my warmer items. And that means Christmas is coming and I can start getting ready for the most wonderful time of the year. BUT, this post is NOT about Christmas so I will not be talking about that. Instead, let’s talk about pumpkins, leaves falling, sweaters, ear warmers, hats, and things like that… Fall is the best. I love the smell…

WIP Wednesday
A little bit of crocheting, a bit of co-op prepping and a whole lot of homeschooling…. That’s just a little bit of what’s going on in my house today. We started homeschool last Monday and are just getting into the routine and now we start co-op tomorrow. Our days are spent in the community room where both my son’s and my desk is at as well as some other stuff for my daughter. On a good day, this is what my desk looks like. I sit on the ball because it helps with my back. It’s a lot better than a chair in my opinion. You can see both schedules,…
